Nanny ‘burns child’s buttocks with stove fire’(see full details)

A nanny, Fatimah Yakubu, who allegedly burnt an eight-year-old girl’s buttocks on a stove, was Monday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Yakubu, 37, of No. 15, Ologolo Street, Lekki Lagos, is facing a one-count charge of assault occasioning grievous harm before Mr B. I. Bakare. Prosecuting Sergeant Friday Mameh told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence last Tuesday, at about 11am, at her residence. Mameh said: “The defendant grievously harmed the eight-year-old girl by burning her buttocks with a burning stove which caused her bodily harm”. The offence, Mameh added, is contrary to Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Yakubu pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Bakare granted him N500, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum. The case continues on May 5.

Man, 27 the commit suicide over football betting

A 27 year old man has reportedly committed suicide in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital. The deceased allegedly took his live by hanging himself on a ceiling fan in his apartment. He was said to have lost out in a betting over the outcome of a European Champion League match. The incident was said to have occurred in Oko- Erin area of the town after the return leg match between FC Barcelona of Spain and AS Roma of Italy played in Italy. He was said to have bet that Barcelona who were leading by 4-1 in the first leg played at Nou Camp, Spain would maintain lead at end of the return leg and b through to the semi-final of the championship. However, the match turned out to be 3-0 in favour of AS Roma making the aggregate result to be 4-4 with Roma qualifying for the semi-final at the expense of Barcelona by virtue of away goals rule. Police begin manhunt for gunmen who killed policeman, abducted German

Crack detectives from the Kano State Police Command have embarked on a manhunt for the fleeing gunmen who killed a Police sergeant and abducted a German national , Mr. Michael Cremza, an employee of Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company , Kano . The Police sergeant was killed by a five - man gang on motorbike who ambushed and opened fire on a vehicle conveying Dantata & Sawoe Construction workers to a site at about 7 .45 am on Monday. During the attack , which occurred on Sabon Titi Madobi Road , Kano, the gunmen killed a Police sergeant , attached to the Special Protection Unit on escort duty.
